Dr. Sean Weighs In On Kombucha

Dr. Sean was asked to provide his perspective on whether kombucha is actually good for you in an Aaptiv.com article that asks Is Kombucha Actually Healthy? Dr. Sean discussed the nuances of this fizzy, fermented drink along with these three other experts:

  • NY-based Integrative Nutritionist Anna Brown
  • Dr. Nancy Rahnama, a nutrition specialist and bariatric physician in Beverly Hills, CA
  • Julia Whelan, a Florida-based registered dietitian and nutritionist

Surprisingly, it’s not such a clear-cut answer, but here’s how Dr. Sean summed it up:

“If prepared safely and with no sugar added, kombucha is a great addition to your diet,” says Dr. McCaffrey. “A small percentage of people experience bloating, nausea, or heartburn when drinking kombucha. But drinking kombucha every day is normally safe and well-tolerated. It’s best to start slow and see how your body reacts. Like everything, moderation is key.”
