The McCaffrey Method

Stress is the cause of all disease.

Dr. Sean has spent his entire career researching, studying and learning how to treat a body under stress, the underlying cause of chronic diseases: Mechanical, Emotional and Nutritional stressor. The basis of the McCaffrey Method is to determine where the body is spending its energy fighting to stay healthy and reversing the stressors causing the patient’s chronic condition in the first place.

7 Stages of Stress

The body is beautifully designed that it comes equipped with its own predictable meter of dysfunction. Like the warning lights on the dashboard of your car that signals dysfunction, our bodies work much the same way under stress.

Normal
Our bodies start out feeling NORMAL, without pain or discomfort. We sleep well, feel mentally alert, living an active, vibrant life. Along come the stressors of LIFE! It could start with a simple fall or acute trauma. If not treated, your body will resist this initial stress by creating muscle contraction in an effort to restore “normal.” This leads to new injuries, mild pain, and a host of other discomforts.
Alarm Phase
You’ve entered the ALARM phase. This can go on for a year or less with moderate symptoms. However, If the causes of the stress are not removed, eventually, the body can no longer compensate, hence the next phase is the COMPENSATION phase.
Compensation Phase
The body has been suffering for decades. It is trying to resist the stress but the body has simply run out of resources and lacks the energy to fight back. Body tissue is failing as the body tries too hard to adapt.
Exhaustion
At this point, the body enters the EXHAUSTION phase, bringing with it a host of noticeable symptoms from Hormonal Imbalances, Inflammation and Ulcers to Depression, Insomnia and more. The unique attributes of the EXHAUSTION phase are that no pathology is yet present, which means, your physician lacks sufficient evidence to diagnose the condition and sends you home without options. No X-ray, CAT Scan or MRI can help. It’s just too soon for a mainstream medical doctor to diagnose, which means you move further down the Stress Dashboard.
Disease
If left untreated, EXHAUSTION gives way to DISEASE. The tissue simply could no longer resist the Stressors and now have become diseased. It is here where the body has been forced to permanently change and compensate in ways that are much less perfect. All standard medical tests are now effective at demonstrating how badly things are damaged. Symptoms quickly become Chronic in nature and never seem to resolve, despite the ever-growing list of prescription medications in your cupboard.
Degeneration
If left untreated (or simply masked with inadequate therapies), the DISEASE state progresses into a state of DEGENERATION, as the cells of the body start to die.
Death
Desperately avoiding the final stage – DEATH – the body has slid down a very steep slope and must be stabilized and taken out of immediate danger first before corrective restorative care can be of any use.

Over time, stressors cause our body to move further away from our PERFECT HEALTH as we become more susceptible to disease and degeneration. The good news is that even in these states, many times if the Stressors can be found and eliminated, the body can re-establish normal function and return to a higher level of stability and function, eventually leading to Perfect Health.

Our philosophy (M.E.N.)

The basis of the McCaffrey Method is to determine where the body is spending its energy fighting to stay healthy and what stressors are causing the patient’s chronic condition. Dr. Sean believes that by balancing the body and giving energy to dysfunctional areas, it can heal itself if you give it what it needs.

Forever the teacher, Dr. Sean came up with “M.E.N.,” an easy way for patients to understand the scientific fundamentals behind the McCaffrey Method:

M.E.N. is the cause of all stress and Stress is the cause of all Disease.

M = Mechanical stressors that effect the anatomy, structural causes such as trauma to the joints, muscles and bones.

E = Emotional stressors that stem from life’s day-to-day pressures with our job, jobs, children, bills, time demands, etc.

N = Nutrition and proper digestion can have a big impact on our health. What we eat, drink and breathe affect how well the body functions and fights back disease.

Internal Health vs. Compartmentalized Health Care

Let’s consider a middle-add female patient suffering with neck and shoulder problems for the past 15 years. She had seen multiple orthopedic surgeons, numerous physical therapists and even chiropractors and had been prescribed various injections and medications, pain killers, muscle relaxer…with no discernible resolution. Nothing works. Why?

Rarely does a patient just have one problem…there are often multiple issues going on in the entire body that’s causing the condition. But mainstream medical doctors today are compartmentalized…meaning they can only specialize in the area they know…if your condition doesn’t fit their specialty, you’re referred to someone else. Consider the classic toy, a Shape Sorter, that challenged children to figure out what piece of the puzzle fits into its proper hole in the sorter. That’s a lot like healthcare in our current medical paradigm, and especially doctors who are compartmentalized and can only specialize in the area they know.

Specialized doctors are effective if you walk in the door with a puzzle piece that fits in their “compartmentalized shape.” Each specialist sees patients in their specific area: neurologist, orthopedists, chiropractor. However, if you go to that same doctor with an issue (e.g. square shape) that doesn’t fit within their triangle specialty…you’re sent on a wild goose chase until you find the doctor with the exact shape for your particular sorter (e.g. condition).

To achieve Perfect Health, we need to look at the whole picture–total body care, not just one small aspect. That’s where Internal Health is different from Compartmentalized Care. Internal Health looks at total body health and is focused on the underlying cause for chronic & degenerative conditions like heart disease, diabetes, stroke, arthritis. Dr. Sean’s model of Internal Health considers what the body needs to support normal body function.
