DIY Cough Drops!
Homemade Cough Drops
These drops are infused with peppermint that kills bacteria, viruses, and menthol to decongest, chamomile which boosts the immune system, and cinnamon is anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-viral. Ginger rounds out our powerhouse group and shown to be a natural pain killer with a dose of anti-inflammatory properties as well!
1 teaspoon peppermint tea leaves (or one peppermint tea bag)
1 tablespoon chamomile tea
½ teaspoon ginger
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¾ cup boiling water
¾ honey
Optional: Essential Oils such as peppermint, or Thieves (great for immune system support)
- Steep peppermint, chamomile, cinnamon, and ginger in boiling water for 10 minutes or more.
- Add honey.
- Strain water off and pour into small saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat until mixture begins to boil.
- Clip candy thermometer to the side of pan.
- Continue boiling until mixture reaches 300 degrees.
- Watch carefully, it’s really easy to burn this!
- Let mixture cool for 5-10 minutes, until it starts to get syrupy.
- Add a few drops of essential oils.
- Drop by small spoonful’s onto parchment paper.
- Dust with slippery elm bark, or cornstarch, potato starch, or tapioca to absorb condensation and prevent sticking.
- Store in airtight container.
