DIY Cough Drops!

Homemade Cough Drops

These drops are infused with peppermint that kills bacteria, viruses, and menthol to decongest, chamomile which boosts the immune system, and cinnamon is anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-viral. Ginger rounds out our powerhouse group and shown to be a natural pain killer with a dose of anti-inflammatory properties as well!

1 teaspoon peppermint tea leaves (or one peppermint tea bag)

1 tablespoon chamomile tea

½ teaspoon ginger

½ teaspoon cinnamon

¾ cup boiling water

¾ honey

Optional: Essential Oils such as peppermint, or Thieves (great for immune system support)

  1. Steep peppermint, chamomile, cinnamon, and ginger in boiling water for 10 minutes or more.
  2. Add honey.
  3. Strain water off and pour into small saucepan.
  4. Heat over medium heat until mixture begins to boil.
  5. Clip candy thermometer to the side of pan.
  6. Continue boiling until mixture reaches 300 degrees.
  7. Watch carefully, it’s really easy to burn this!
  8. Let mixture cool for 5-10 minutes, until it starts to get syrupy.
  9. Add a few drops of essential oils.
  10. Drop by small spoonful’s onto parchment paper.
  11. Dust with slippery elm bark, or cornstarch, potato starch, or tapioca to absorb condensation and prevent sticking.
  12. Store in airtight container.
